COOPI's personnel are either local workers or expatriates who have spent years in a specific region.

Activities and Areas of Intervention in Ethiopia

COOPI started operation in Ethiopia in 1995. In 1998 COOPI was also registered with the Ethiopian Ministry of Justice and this registration was renewed for all the consecutive years up to 2006. COOPI's Country office in Addis Ababa is the co-ordination office for all existing and upcoming Projects.

COOPI is implementing various projects in different Administrative Regions of the country including Oromia, Somali Amhara and Afar National Regional States. In all the years COOPI has implemented various projects ranging from relief, recovery, and rehabilitation and development. The main focus of its interventions is Integrated Rural development including Water Resource Development, Agricultural Development, Animal Health, Human Health, Capacity Building and Income Generation activities.

The main strategy of COOPI Ethiopia is to operate in synergy with the donor's community, the International Organizations and the local government in order to assure adequate intervention. Community participation and cost sharing mechanisms are followed so as to ensure sustainability of the actions. COOPI has been working with local NGOs in Ethiopia, and more specifically, has a long experience in the Somali region with Pastoralist Concern Associations Ethiopia (PCAE). Currently COOPI is taking steps to collaborate with more local NGOs and to focus its effort on working at grassroots level involving local communities, local associations, cooperatives, self-help groups and other community organizations.
