From February 24 to 28, 2007, an Italian commercial mission was held in Ethiopia, lead by the Foreign Trade Institute (Istituto del Commercio Estero - ICE) and the Ethiopian International Trade Ministry. Great importance was given to this visit by Ethiopian authorities. During meetings with the Commissioner for investments, Ato Aby Woldemeskel and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ato Seyoum Mesfin, the Italian entrepreneurs could be briefed on business opportunities in the Country but also raise issues and problems faced by those entrepreneurs already working in Ethiopia. Furthermore, the Minister for Foreign Affairs underlined that the interest of the Ethiopian Government to attract Italian investors is so relevant that it is available to consider a more flexible application of the local business regulations (whenever it should represent an obstacle for Italian entrepreneurs) in order to facilitate the settlement of Italian business within the Ethiopian market.
This visit was also the occasion for 16 Italian firms from different sectors (agro-industry, engineering, pharmaceutical, construction material and machinery, textile and leather) to gather at the International Trade Fair of Addis Ababa’s Chamber of Commerce (February 22 to 28), with 35 Ethiopian firms selected by the Italian Embassy in collaboration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Industry and Commerce and IBCA (Italian Business Community Association).
