The Italian Development Cooperation Office of the Embassy of Italy in Addis Ababa, together with Fondazione Rita Levi -Montalcini Onlus, founded by the Nobel Prize winner Prof. Rita Levi Montalcini, and in collaboration with the Italian NGO Medici con l’Africa Cuamm, MoH, MoWCYA and the Ethiopian Catholic Church, will launch on the 30th May 2013 the workshop on “Women Education in Health’ - Strategies for the enhancement of maternal and newborn health. The commitment of a Nobel Prize Rita Levi-Montalcini” to be held at the Italian Cultural Institute in Addis Ababa.
The objective of the workshop is to encourage the role of women and their training in health, with special focus on fostering child and maternal health in Ethiopia. The event, which brings together public and private health professionals and leaders from all over the country and abroad, represents a valuable opportunity to jointly evaluate actions taken by various stakeholders to improve child and maternal health and to analyze ways forward.
“We hope this workshop will be not only an opportunity to share knowledge and experience, but also a valid contribution to the substantial progress Ethiopia is making in the maternal and newborn health sector. We will continue to support future efforts undertaken by the Ethiopian Government towards the achievement of the health MDGs, especially through the new Ethio-Italian Country Framework 2013-15”, said Ambassador of Italy Renzo Rosso.
The workshop will be attended by the Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lapo Pistelli and the Italian Director General for Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Giampaolo Cantini, who are holding an official visit to the Country that will be also the occasion for the signature, with the Government of Ethiopia, of the new Country Framework 2013-15.
