The State Minister of Finance and Economic Development of Ethiopia, rnH.E. Ato Ahmed Shide, and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of rnItaly, H.E. Mr Lapo Pistelli, signed today the new three year rnEthio-Italian Cooperation Framework which envisages new initiatives inrn the two priority sectors of agriculture and rural development, and rnprovision of basic services (health, education and WASH), with a rnspecific focus on the cross-cutting issues of private sector rndevelopment, gender and environment.
The new rnEthio-Italian Cooperation Framework 2013-2015 has been developed in rnclose cooperation with the Government of Ethiopia and the relevant rnsector Ministries, in line with the 2015 targets set in the Growth andrn Transformation Plan (GTP), and builds on the long-lasting cooperationrn and partnership for development between the two countries which datesrn back to 1976.
Re-affirming Italy’s commitment to rnEthiopia, Mr Lapo Pistelli said, “Ethiopia’s progress is incontrovertible and as it goes forward, Italy is strongly committed rnto support the Government in achieving the development goals of its rnGrowth and Transformation Plan (GTP) and the MDGs, together with the rnother Development Partners.”
The Cooperation rnFramework 2013-2015, which will be financed by 98.9 million Euro rnthrough both soft loans and grants - therefore doubling the 2009-2011 rnItalian contribution of 48 million Euro (grant) - is indeed the resultrn of a process that embraces Italy’s active role in the promotion of rnthe ‘EU+ Joint Cooperation Strategy for Ethiopia’, aimed at ensuring arn coherent and cohesive development approach by all EU Member States rnand Noway.
Moreover, the Framework encompasses rnItaly\'s adhesion to the “New Alliance for Food Security and Nutritionrn Initiative”, launched in 2012 by the US under their G8 Presidency, rnthrough which Italy confirms water, agriculture, rural and private rndevelopment as its priority rnareas.
