Print Your Future: a Training Project in Ethiopia |
|
Surafel is a student of the Don Bosco School of Addis Ababa. He is among the 14,600 beneficiaries of the Project "Print Your Future: Development of the Printing and Graphic Sector in Ethiopia", funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and implemented by the Italian NGO VIS and by the Salesians of Don Bosco.
Print your Future wanted to establish a school where to study Graphic Arts. On May 18th, 2017, the new Graphic Arts Department was inaugurated and Surafel was among the speakers of the event. "We call them Professors, but they are more than this. They are like fathers for us. They don't only pass us technical expertise, but they are also an example of morality" - he stated.
The Project aims at improving education in the field of Graphic and Typography in Ethiopia. A department of Graphic Arts was built within the premises of the Don Bosco School of Mekanissa, Addis Ababa. Thanks to the funding of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI-DGCS) and AICS, the department has been provided with modern typographical machines.
Giuseppe Mistretta, Ambassador of Italy to Ethiopia, declared: " The funding of the Italian Government aims at improving technical competences of Ethiopian workers and at enhancing job opportunities for young Ethiopians, especially in the field of new technologies".
After the ribbon cut, attended by many representatives from the International Cooperation and local Institution, Nico Lotta, VIS President, highlighted that "This school is going to be an hub, which is going to facilitate training, through new technologies. It is for the benefit of students and workers that want to improve their competencies".
For Surafel, and many other Ethiopians, development means formation, in first place. The school of Mekanissa is the first Graphic Arts School in Ethiopia and VIS developed also a specific course of studies, previously absent in the country. Therefore, Print your Future is a unique occasion for Ethiopia, for the benefit of the whole country.
